Aussie Gold or rather, Green and Gold are Australia’s national colours proclaimed in 1984 by the then Governor-General, Sir Ninian Stevens. Prior to this, since the late 1800′s green and gold have been used as a national sporting colour.
There are two thoughts on why these two particular colours, some people suggest it’s because of the golden wattle – Australia’s national floral emblem – and the other theory is that it has strong environmental connections. The gold represents the country’s beaches, mineral wealth, grain harvests and the fleece of Australian wool and the green of the forests, gum trees and pastures of the country’s landscape.
As mentioned it’s the colours mostly adopted by sporting teams and so easily recognisable at various sporting events – the Aussies don’t fade into the background with these bold colours. We have a selection of designs using the Aussie Gold or Green and Gold design, make sure you check them out and support this great country!
We sell a lot of the Aussie Gold design as it’s a great way to show your pride when supporting Australia, click here to check out our range of products.
