I just wanted to share a picture taken by one of our visitors (and facebook friends) of a real Australian road sign designed to protect the native animals from cars. Isn’t it sweet?

A sexually-frustrated male emu is chasing a woman in the Northern Territory because it cannot find a female mate.

Patrena Arriston from Katherine, 300 kilometres south of Darwin, says her seven-year-old emu, Edward, began sitting on an empty nest last year and now chases her when she comes close to it.

“It’s starting to get a bit frustrated and when I go in there to pet it or feed the chooks and stuff like that, I sort of get rounded up,” she said.

“It keeps circling me and I have to get a palm frond and hold it up and sort of push it away.”

She says there is a female emu 800 kilometres away but she does not have a trailer to bring it to her property.

Gender confusion stalls emu love match

The owner of a remote Northern Territory roadhouse which bills itself as one of the world’s UFO hotspots is hoping to play matchmaker in the case of a sex-starved pet emu located 800 kilometres away.

But there’s a problem: the roadhouse owner can’t tell which of his pet emus are male and which are female.

The lonely plight of Edward the emu attracted global attention earlier this month after it was revealed he was sitting on an empty nest and exhibiting amorous behaviour towards his owner because he did not have a mate.

Concerned for Edward’s welfare, owner Patrena Arriston appealed for help to deliver a female emu from Wycliffe Well to Katherine to give the frustrated male emu some much-needed company.

Let’s hope Edward meets the girl of his dreams as soon as they can work out a suitable partner and he lives a happy and long life up in the Top End. We will endeavour to update you on their success as we hear more.

A Sydney woman and her family have had an unlikely carpool passenger on a recent drive across the Harbour Bridge.

A green tree snake suddenly emerged from a vent near Lou Lineker’s car’s windscreen wipers.

“I was screaming to pull over,” Mrs Lineker said.

“But it’s pretty hard when you’re on the Harbour Bridge.”

The snake lingered at the windscreen for five heart-stopping minutes, before slithering back down the vent.

The mother of two says she feared the snake could reappear somewhere inside the car as they drove.

Her husband was at the wheel and managed to stay calm.

“If it had been a brown snake or something I’m sure he would have been a bit more worried,” she said.

When the family got home they searched the car, but the snake was nowhere to be found.

“I must confess, I’ve not driven that car since,” Mrs Lineker said.

“Thankfully I’ve got my own car, which is parked in a car port.

“But they are very harmless snakes, so I think I’d welcome him back if he came to visit, preferably not in my car though.”

Aussie takes third in paper plane champs (Go TEAM!)

An Australian university student has won a bronze medal at a paper plane world championships event in Austria, following an intense two-day weekend display of aerodynamics.

Dylan Parker, 21, outclassed more than 250 paper plane enthusiasts from 83 countries to place third in the long distance category at the Paper Wings World Finals in Salzburg, Austria.

The Canberra student threw his plane – made from a single sheet of A4 paper – an impressive 40.78 metres.

Fellow Australian James Norton was a favourite to take out the longest airtime category, until his paper plane hit a roof fixture in the competition hanger, sending his gold medal hopes crashing to the ground.

What a gutsy effort from the Australians!! Well done guys.

Beach croc sighting crumples

Police were called to an Adelaide beach this morning when there were reports of a crocodile at Glenelg.

Police say they received several calls from the public who spotted the reptile.

Officers from the Water Operations branch found the creature at about 10:00am.

They say it posed no threat to the public because it was made of papier mache.

From ABC News

Who let the papier mache crocodile loose on a poor unsuspecting public? They’re really dangerous too! ;)

Police watch for cheap undies (as you do!)

Adelaide police are looking for people who may have been offered underwear at a discount price.

They say thieves stole a large amount of underwear from shop in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs at the weekend.

Between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, 30 bodysuits and other items of underwear were stolen from the shop in Glen Osmond Road at Eastwood.

Police think the offenders may try to sell the goods cheaply.

From ABC News

I hope when the police found the culprits they didn’t yell “drop ‘em” as that could’ve been embarrassing!
